Mary O’Connor was born in Wexford, Ireland. She studied design in Dublin and worked as an interior designer in London and New Zealand. At art college in Auckland , her eyes opened to the world of contemporary art. In 2000 Mary moved to Belize in Central America, where her brush flowed with tropical inspiration.
In 2003 Mary followed her engineer husband to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where she has lived for 11 years. She has found abundant artistic inspiration in Kazakhstan, and in recent years she has also pursued photography. She is thankful to have spent a decade in Kazakhstan, enjoying and savouring the lovely people of this beautiful land. She is author of two books, Head over Heels and Chai and Chat, a bringing together of creative talent in aid of DARA FOUNDATION, who for ten years have instigated life changing development work for underprivileged and handicapped children of Kazakhstan.
